We were told to make a picture relating to Obama and his win of president of the United States of America. I decided to make the flag black and white so that he would stand out, then used the American colors for the writing to show patriotism.
Title: Lucid DreamCritique: In this image you can see a man sleeping but he seems to be sinking in the ocean with some of his simple belongings at the same time (umbrella, lamp, hammer, bucket, typewriter). I think that the layout works well because there are not too many objects, only enough to keep the observer intrigued for more than a split second. Having the picture be in black and white instead of in color makes it easier to see and more dramatic to the eye. The photographer uses the fact that the picture is in black and white to his advantage by showing the ripples in the water, the way the bed sheets float and become transparent and even the splashes in the water caused by a falling object. All of these affects make the observer wonder, is the man in his dream? why is he in the middle of the ocean? is his life just simply falling deeper and deeper towards disaster? I think that by titling the art work as " Lucid Dream", lucid meaning transparently clear or easily understandable, the piece says that as life goes on things become more clear and some almost so clear that they could possibly have a reflection affecting the world. I believe that the artist was successful in portraying their message through the picture. It also kept me interested because I am very intrigued by composite pictures. The textures, shadows and attention to detail make this image interesting, therefore I would not change anything about the image.

We were assigned to create a cd cover for any album of our choice. I chose the soundtrack to Lords of Dog Town and instantly thought of skateboarding and surfing. I got the idea of a skateboarder facing towards a surfer with the ocean as a background. In order to accomplish my goal i asked my friend Mac to skate around Bird Rock so i could take pictures of him. Once that shoot was finished i headed down to WindanSea, the beach by my house, and took some pictures of local surfers. I was too far away from them to get the shot i wanted so instead i went over to a skinboarder and asked if i could take his picture for a photography project. He said i could and to my shock i only had to take one picture in order to get the shot i wanted. Then i decided that the background would be a picture of the shack on the beach. Developing was easy because i got the hang of it and luckily all of my pictures turned out great. Then came the fun part, printing. I only needed to print 3 pictures and then scanned them onto the computer while uploading them to my flash drive. I am pleased with the finished product (below).
When taking the pictures for the portraits i chose to use Jasmyn H. I decided to use a black background thinking that it would be simple and the light would hit it nicely. After shooting i developed the pictures in the black room and the next day got to print them. While printing i thought that it would be difficult to get the hang of but after a while it was easy. When i put the picture in the chemical to print it turned out darker than i wanted. I still liked the picture in the end but decided that when using a person with dark hair, skin,or clothes you should use a light background and vise versa.
